Professional Biography: I am a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with extensive experience in mental health and substance use treatment across the lifespan. Over the years, I have worked with diverse populations, providing compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals facing a wide range of psychiatric and substance use challenges. My background includes working in a state psychiatric hospital, correctional facilities such as Sherburne County Jail, and mental health services at The Landing and Recovery Academy. Additionally, I have provided substance use disorder treatment at Hazelden Betty Ford, gaining comprehensive experience in addressing co-occurring conditions.
I am currently pursuing my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at the University of Minnesota, School of Nursing. My education and training in psychiatric nursing have equipped me with the skills to offer comprehensive, trauma-informed care. I specialize in behavioral interventions for opioid use disorders, co-occurring psychiatric conditions, and mental health support for vulnerable populations, including those affected by child protection and gender-based violence issues.
I take a holistic, patient-centered approach to therapy, emphasizing collaboration, empathy, and respect. I believe in empowering clients through education, life skills development, and supportive interventions tailored to their unique needs. What I enjoy most about working in mental health is the opportunity to foster resilience and witness transformative growth in my clients.

Fun Fact: I’m a proud parent of three children aged 17, 8, and 3, and I cherish every moment I get to spend with them. I completed my Master’s degree at the University of Antwerp in Belgium ( 2010) and have a background in Political Science and International Relations from my home country, Ethiopia. Additionally, I worked as a university professor at Jimma University in Ethiopia.
